Young adults
Our young adults with developmental disabilities were being kicked out of their school programs prematurely because of a policy that cut off support when they turned 22. This was unacceptable, so I passed legislation that allows these students to remain in school after their 22nd birthday to finish their school year and graduate with their classmates.
Giving our youth more options and exposing them to different career paths is important. Chicago High School for Agricultural Sciences has been an incredible resource for students in our district and thanks to recent legislation I sponsored, they are extending enrollment to students with special needs.
Children with Disabilities
I want all the children in the 18th district to have the resources they need to thrive, which is why I helped secure infrastructure funding for A.E.R.O Special Education Cooperative, a special education school for elementary and high school students with severe developmental disabilities. Students enrolled in this school have specially trained and dedicated teachers working with them to serve their individualized needs.
